Specifically, inositol "reverses desensitization of serotonin receptors", meaning less serotonin works to a greater effect. Inositol is naturally produced within the body, but is also found within plant-based foods. In the form of phytate or phytic acid, it is found in many kinds of foods, particularly cereal grains.

Inositol is still new, but preliminary evidence shows that it may be a promising answer to sleep deprivation. Other nutrients that may help include L-theanine and 5-HTP. Including these in your daily diet, in the form of supplements or natural ingestion, is a healthy and smart way to promote healthy sleep habits.
